Vagabond Sun: Selected Poems

Discover the powerful, evocative poetry of one of Lithuania’s most distinctive literary voices.
In Vagabond Sun: Selected Poems, acclaimed Lithuanian poet Judita Vaiinait transforms everyday urban life into a landscape of memory, beauty, independence, and emotional discovery.
Moving beyond traditional pastoral poetry, Vaiinait finds inspiration in bustling streets, weathered buildings, city cafs, and the unexpected beauty of nature emerging through concrete. Her vivid imagery and striking contrasts capture both the tenderness and uncertainty of modern existence.
Through poems exploring love, motherhood, personal freedom, and women’s experiences, she examines the complexities of identity while drawing deeply from Lithuanian history and mythology.
Translated into English by Rimas Uzgiris, this carefully selected collection introduces international readers to an important twentieth-century poet whose work bridges intimate personal reflection and broader cultural experience.
A compelling choice for readers of literary poetry, translated literature, and Eastern European writing.
