In the mid-twentieth century, a remarkable spiritual movement quietly swept across the globe, drawing seekers, intellectuals, and the devout into its extraordinary fold The Path of Subud stands as one of the most lucid and authoritative firsthand accounts of that phenomenon. Husein Rof chronicles his personal journey into Subud, the Indonesian spiritual practice founded by Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo, presenting with clarity and conviction the principles of the latihan kejiwaan a form of spontaneous spiritual exercise believed to awaken the inner self to a higher power. The narrative moves between personal testimony and philosophical inquiry, giving the reader an intimate window into a movement that defied easy categorisation.Rof writes with the measured passion of a true believer who nonetheless insists on intellectual honesty, making The Path of Subud essential reading for those who wish to understand one of the twentieth century’s most intriguing spiritual phenomena. The work sits at the intersection of Eastern mysticism and Western rationalism, grappling with questions of faith, surrender, and the nature of divine contact. For anyone curious about the deeper currents running beneath modern spiritual life, this account raises questions that linger long after the final page is turned.
