New Arrival Small Comfort

2026 International Booker Prize Longlisted
Five unforgettable stories reveal how money shapes our livesand what truly matters beyond it.
From internationally acclaimed Swedish author Ia Genberg, Small Comfort is a perceptive and emotionally resonant collection exploring the complicated relationships between wealth, identity, love, and human connection.
Through five interconnected explorations of everyday life, Genberg introduces a former child actor whose fortunes have taken an unexpected turn, an actor hired to deliver a speech at a stranger’s wedding, and a couple pretending to enjoy a happy marriage to protect their inheritance.
With remarkable insight and understated humour, these stories expose the small deceptions, difficult compromises, and unspoken desires that influence how people relate to one another.
Blending intimate character studies with thoughtful observations about privilege, greed, and vulnerability, Small Comfort captures both the security money can provide and the emptiness it can leave behind.
A compelling collection for readers who appreciate beautifully observed literary fiction and the emotional complexities of ordinary lives.
